The New England Philharmonic announces 2023 Call for Scores Competition
BOSTON — The New England Philharmonic, under the direction of new Music Director Tianhui Ng, announces the commencement of its 38th Annual Call for Scores competition.
Since 1985, the New England Philharmonic has been one of few orchestras of its size in the country with a Composer-in-Residence program that holds an annual Call for Scores competition, receiving dozens of submissions from around the world. Winning scores are performed on one of our season’s programs.
By presenting these new works in the context of pieces by established composers— including classics of the symphonic repertory—the New England Philharmonic demonstrates that orchestral music is not a finished collection of museum pieces, but a living, evolving tradition.
Interested composers can find competition guidelines and submit their scores through the NEP website through April 15, 2023. Submissions will be reviewed by the NEP’s Music Director, Tianhui Ng, and Composer-in-Residence, Eric Nathan. The winning work will be programmed in the 2023-24 season.
