NEP Chamber Players
The New England Philharmonic broadens appreciation of contemporary music and reaches out to new audiences through the NEP Chamber Players, composed of players from the brass, strings, and woodwind sections of the full orchestra.
The Chamber Players often create unique programs in collaboration with entities that sponsor performances.
Meet the Chamber Players
The NEP Chamber Players, founded by NEP Concertmaster Danielle Maddon, are made up of three distinct chamber groups: the Principal Strings, the Woodwind Quintet, and the Brass Quintet. These ensembles commit time outside of normal NEP orchestra rehearsals to connect, explore new compositions for chamber-sized ensembles, and perform for the public to bring additional awareness to the NEP.
Engaging with the Community
The NEP Chamber Players regularly partner with Boston community partners, including local museums and libraries like the Cape Ann Museum, the Peabody Essex Museum, and the Boston Athenaeum to offer a variety of performances. The community performances are often open to the public and allow the Boston community to experience live music and new works for chamber ensembles.
Music Education Outreach
The NEP Chamber Players partners with the Boston Children’s Museum to present “Conduct Us!” This interactive program that gives children the opportunity to conduct a live chamber ensemble, with musicians responding to each movement of the baton.
Other programs included the “Meet the Instruments” series, which teaches attendees about all the orchestral instruments. Each performance is accompanied by a close-up encounter with the NEP Chamber Players, allowing kids to see the instruments.
